Who are your heros?

After the last post, I was thinking about heros. I would love to hear from you all, who you admire from the past, or who may inspire you today. And we know that the Big Man and His Son rank at the top...But who else is there that amazes you and encourages you to live your best life? Have you come across anyone in recent reading or in the newspaper? Have your kids written a report about someone that you never knew was so worthwhile to study? I will read some of your comments and then share with you the heros in my life.

Let me be the first to comment dear julie. I truely have no hero's today though I do think one of the greatest men of our modren day was Former President Regan.

As a kid Arnold Swassenager was my hero. I even read some of his books he wrote -- well Ok I can only remember one for sure but I think ther might have been 2.

Hmmm, I used to be able to toss out names so easily but now my ideal of a hero has changed. I think I'd have to go with Paul, the apostle (if we're allowed) because he suffered a great deal and yet remained faithful to the cause. He had that thorn in his side which caused him great affliction, but he still pressed on. I'd like to be as miraculous, as articulate and as faithful as Paul.

For me, one man that I viewed as a hero, is Abraham Lincoln. Many people remember him as the president that freed the slaves, which of course was awesome. But what a lot of people don't know is that he was about as tenacious as any one person can be. He never gave up his dream, to be in politics. He had to try SEVERAL times before he could even be accepted into some of the more minor of seats. He just kept plugging along, doing what he believed was right, and true. He never gave up, despite all of the set backs, and rejections. Thank God for such a man, a man that stayed true to the course.

I liked Regans Humor when under fire - he'd just been shot and was making joke with the doctors as they rushed him into surger. His firm unshakable stances on issues. Like walking out of meetings on Gorbachav just to show he wasn't going to sit around and be toyed with he had other things to do. How he lead this country dispite how people may have viewed him he alwys did his best. For a politician he had integrity just as I believe Bush II will in the end mosst likely be found a man of integrity. Regan wrote love letters to his wife his whole life even in the wite house I believe he ruly loved his wife. An finally he was a great leader for all the things I mentioned. I hope some day to be remembered as a good leader but God has not chosen to put me in a position of leadersship aat this time in my life.

Wow, Auntie, that's cool. I have only thought about Eve in a negative light before...the one who sinned! She was the mother of us all and she did raise Abel to be a good and godly man. They did walk and talk with God in the Garden. And like us all, they didn't choose to heed his counsel and fell to their own appetites.

My heros are the eight women who serve as the advisory for AmblesideOnline.

Donna-Jean Breckenridge
Lynn Bruce
Wendi Capehart
Karen Glass
Leslie Laurio
Leslie Smith
Amy Toomsen
Anne White

They have put their amazing minds together and have come up with a complete cirriculum that is absolutely FREE. They have maintained the goal of making a wonderful, enriching, full cirriculum that is completely accessable to anyone of any economic situation. These women recieve no monetary compensation for the thousands of hours they have already logged and are continuing to put in towards refining and facilitating this program. You can check this out at www.amblesideonline.org

This one took me a while...there are so many people I admire...but I have to go with a whole "group" of people...Missionaries...people who have given up everything to help others....Someday God willing that will be me...!!

I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.
